Once upon a time, we rarely had to worry about these storms of radiation that can cause serious harm to our planet, but that time happens to be now. With all of this activity leading up to the solar maximum in 2013, space can seem pretty scary. NOAA, which is warning of that largest solar storm since 2005 is currently on a course headed for us. This was caused by a massive M8.7 class flare that erupted from our star’s surface last night.

At the center of all black holes lies a point of infinite density and infinite gravity called the gravitational singularity. Einstein’s theory of General Relativity predicted the existence of black holes before they were ever found and he was right. Black holes not only exist, they are very common throughout the universe. In fact, our galaxy and all galaxies have a supermassive black hole their center. The problem with Einstein’s theory is that when calculating the mass and gravity of the singularity, the answer ends up as infinity every time. To a mathematician this is just a number that has no beginning and no end, but to a physicist, this is the worst possible result. As it turns out, researchers think that the universe will come to an end in about 5 billion years. The universe, our universe, has been around for almost 14 billion years, 13.75 +/- 0.13 billion or 4.336 x 1017 SI seconds if you feel the need to get technical. It seems as if the universe should continue to thrive and expand for billions of years to come, But according to a new paper, one theory for the origins of the universe states time itself will end in just five billion years. Coincidentally, this death prediction for the universe also comes in around the time when our sun is supposed to die. Please note, this is just speculation. Almost everybody knows roughly what a black hole is but the majority of the population could not go deep into the subject. Black holes are formed when stars that are 10 to 15 times as large than the Sun reach the end of their life and die in a violent explosion known as a supernova. When a star that massive undergoes a supernova explosion, there are generally two outcomes that come with the collapse. The star can form an incredibly bright and hot ball of neutrons called a neutron star. These neutrons are so dense that if you put a marble with the density of a neutron star on the sidewalk, it would crater into the ground and tear through the earth. On the other hand, it may leave behind a massive burned-out stellar remnant that with no outward forces to oppose gravitational forces, the remnant will collapse in on itself. Gravity would push down this remnant until it was so tightly packed that it would have zero volume and an infinite density. This point of infinite density is known more commonly as a singularity. Earth is is big place filled with many different species of plants, animals, and marine life. We have come to catalogue about 8.74 million species of life on the earth so far. The oceans are essential in life for all species on Earth. They cover more than 70 percent of the planet’s surface, driving weather, regulating temperature, and ultimately supporting all living organisms. Back in one of my previous posts, Faster than light, I talked about a little known subatomic particle called the neutrino. Today we are going to go into more depth on the subject.
Neutrinos are eclectically neutral particles that are created when a large star supernovas and results in a neutron star. Neutrinos are not like most subatomic particles. Because neutrinos do not interact with almost anything, they can disregard matter. What this means is that for some reason, they can pass through solid matter as if it was not even there.

Just by reading the title you might be a little confused. Can there really be earthquakes on the sun? The answer is yes.
Solar flares are a phenomenon where a sudden brightening observed over the sun’s surface or a solar limb, which is interpreted as a large energy release of up to 6 × 1025 joules of energy . The flare ejects clouds of electrons, ions, and atoms through the corona into space. Flares occur when the medium plasma is heated to tens of millions of kelvins on the sun and electrons, protons, and heavier ions accelerate to near the speed of light. Flares occur in active regions around sunspots, where intense magnetic fields penetrate the photosphere to link the corona to the solar interior. These violent releases of energy happen when a release of magnetic energy stored in the corona is thrust out of the sun. You are probably wondering what this has to do with earthquakes on the sun. Teleportation is definetly possible but it is highly unlikely that it will be perfected in our lifetime. In order to teleport an object, it’s atoms would have to be scanned, copied, and sent to the destination. There is only one problem with this. According to the no-broadcast theorem, this is impossible. You could destroy one of the copies but according to the laws of physics, Matter cannot be created nor destroyed. A paradox.
Teleportation is a term that refers to a number of theories and notions concerning the transfer of matter from one point to another without traversing the physical space between them. On the other hand, quantum teleportation, is a process by which a qubit (the basic unit of quantum information) can be transmitted exactly from one location to another, without the qubit being transmitted through the intervening space. This is useful for quantum information processing, however it does not instantaneously transmit classical information, and therefore cannot be used for communication at superluminal speed. Quantum teleportation is the more likely of the two to work but there are still many problems that occur when using either concept. Continue Reading »
